Ciaran McDonald talks to The Dark Master

Updated: Jun 16, 2021

Mr Ciaran McDonald teaches Taekwon-Do full-time in the Oxford area of the UK but he also has a background in Karate and has tried his hand at some other arts too.

Within the PUMA martial arts organisation he has often seen as an outspoken person who's not afraid to say what he thinks. However, his passion for martial arts and teaching shines through and he has the students to prove it.

Mr McDonald has written a book that outlines his thoughts and passions on the practical elements of the movements within the ITF Taekwon-Do patterns - the book demonstrates how some of the traditional movements can be used in a modern-day scenario and are not just martial ballet.

☯ BIO: Ciaran McDonald is the author of the explosive new book ‘Old School Perspectives on Taekwon-do’ (link below).

This controversial expose has been called ‘the most important book in TKD after the encyclopaedia. It is critically acclaimed by Grand Masters all over the world.

The book is designed to help TKD lovers apply the unexplained and confusing techniques of the ITF patterns in a realistic way. It has been described as “essential reading” for those who ‘really’ want to know how our martial art works.

Ciaran is also a full-time instructor in both TKD and Okinawan Karate. He is a martial arts nut, a family man and plays the guitar (badly).

It is Ciaran’s mission to bring to the TKD world the lost practices and the hidden applications of the Tae Kwon Do patterns. It is his belief that by rediscovering ‘Old School Methods’ we can make TKD relevant for the self-defence needs of the 21st century.
